Speaker:
Don Manson, Coordinator of the Community Development Institute, UNBC
The Community Development Institute focuses on two fundamental issues: community capacity and community development. By undertaking research, sharing information, and supporting education outreach, the Institute is a vital partner to communities interested in making informed decisions about their own futures.
As Coordinator of the Community Development Institute, community outreach and research are two of Don's responsibilities and in fulfilling these roles; he visits most communities in northern BC and the southern Yukon each year.
Don is also an Adjunct Professor of Geography and a Research Associate on the Canada Research Chair's Rural and Small Town Studies Team. His areas of interest encompass sustainable and healthy communities, citizen participation, and the economic history of northern British Columbia. Don's presentation will include:
• what is community development
• getting ahead of the resource development curve
• examples of successful resource development policy in BC
• equipping communities to exercise place-based advantages
• how to meet development opportunities and challenges
Thank you for your attention and response. I look forward to seeing you at the event.
