This is a Peace Region Professionals recognized Pro-D event
It took more than two years and cost close to $37 million. Recently completed, work began on the twisty two-lane section of Highway 97 high above Okanagan Lake in February 2008. The road is halfway up a steep cliff requiring a great deal of blasting and rock removal… all this activity took place in the habitat of a unique low elevation population of mountain goats.
Brian Churchill (M.Sc, R.P. Bio) will provide an overview of a project that monitored the impact of the construction on the herd. Surprisingly, the mountain goats showed amazing resilience to the 2 year Highway 97 upgrade which doubled the width of the road and allowed for generous shoulders and straightening.
There will be a $5 cost recovery fee charged at the door. Public welcome. To register, contact Lori at Sci-Tech North 250 785 9600 or lori@scitechnorth.bc.ca
