This presentation embarks on a historical review of surveying Northeast BC, highlights acheivements by early Land Surveyors well known in this area, and leads into the definition and scope of Geomatics as a modern profession.

Recent advances in technology are described, including Robotic instrument technology and the various of GPS methods, as well as the latest in data management, Geographic Information
Systems  and mapping technology, taking account of the use of LIDAR data and government
resources.

Governance structure is discussed including entry standards, ethics, code of conduct and guiding statutes and legislation.

Also, educational programs in BC are highlighted, instruments and maps displayed, and handouts are available.
