The scholarships will be awarded through "Idea MashUP" competitions, where students in high schools across Northern and Central BC are challenged to create a new technology by combining (mashing) two or more existing technologies.
Grade twelve students from central and northern British Columbia now have access to a $225,000 Young Innovator Scholarship Fund to be awarded based on the innovation and entrepreneurship of selected submissions. The scholarships support student enrolment in full-time science, technology and business programs at BC post secondary institutions.
The funding program is a partnership between Northern Development Initiative Trust (Northern Development $75,000) and the BC Innovation Council (BCIC $150,000).

A former Fort St John student has already been awarded $4,000 and is currently enrolled in post secondary studies.
